Notes on International Book Giving Day. Holiday script for the book donation campaign

February 14 is International Book Giving Day!
On this day, people on a completely voluntary basis give books to children and inspire others to do so: they give them to friends and relatives - younger brothers, sisters, nephews, pupils, students, etc.; leave books in rooms where there are a large number of children and where there are no books; donate their books to libraries, schools, orphanages, hospitals, etc.; talk about it on their websites, blogs, social networks.

The holiday owes its appearance in 2012 to the founder of the well-known children's book website Delightful Children's Books in the USA, Emmy Broadmoor. The idea of its creation was prompted by Emmy's little son, who asked her why there is no special day when people give books to each other?
At first, Emmy Broadmoor simply sent out invitations to various people on the Web to take part in the initiative, and in two years this initiative has received support around the world and continues to find new enthusiasts and participants around the world.

The action, held on International Book Giving Day, has an official website - http://bookgivingday.com/, where you can register as a participant, see how others celebrate this day, and download useful materials.

In 2016, the Rodnik Library and.

International Book Giving Day at the Rodnik Library named after I. S.A. Zolottseva

International Book Giving Day is one of the youngest holidays on the calendar. It unites everyone who not only loves books, but also gives the opportunity to read to other people.

Library "Spring" named after S.A. Zolottseva has been taking part in the action dedicated to the International Book Giving Day for the second year. On February 15, as part of the campaign, library staff collected books for the special correctional general education school No. 5 in Pskov. At the meeting, we told the students about the history of this thematic day and presented books that will replenish the school library. The children looked at gift books with pleasure: fairy tales, poems, cognitive and adventure stories.

In 2015, the Rodnik Library, the Library-Center for Communication and Information and the Lik Children's Library participated in the action.

Action in the Children's Library "Lik"

February 13 Children's Library "Lik" took part in the action dedicated to the International Book Giving Day (February 14).

The purpose of the action was to attract both children and leaders of children's reading to reading. On this day, librarians donated more than 45 books to their readers, their parents and teachers, as well as pupils of the kindergarten "Friendship".

Action "Give a book - give the world"

On February 13, the Library-Center for Communication and Information hosted the action "Give a book - give the world" to the International Book Giving Day (February 14).

Residents of the microdistrict donated books to the library, and the library, in turn, prepared gifts for its users.

After the correct answer to the question of the blitz quiz, the participants of the action chose a gift book.

All gift books were wrapped in gift paper and became a surprise for the new owner. The packaging contained clues that helped determine the genre of the book. And the gifts were classics, detective stories, fantasy, women's novels or children's literature, depending on the age of the participant.

A book is one of the most wise and precious gifts we can give to our loved ones and friends. From time immemorial, a book as a gift was considered a peculiar way of expressing one's respect or an opportunity to make a good acquaintance.

Yes, and it was not allowed to sell books, because they were revered as a gift from above, being a source of knowledge and wisdom for people. Of course, time passed, our life, circumstances, customs and traditions changed, and the phrase that “a book is the best gift” began to gradually fade into oblivion. But fortunately, it didn't go away completely.

In 2012, there was a wonderful date for book lovers. February 14 is International Book Giving Day. The main idea of the holiday is to inspire people around the world to give good books and show that a paper book remains a relevant gift and does not lose its value even in the age of technology. The Association of Cultural, Artistic and Educational Workers to Introduce Children to Reading "Raising the Reader" initiated on that day the first all-Russian campaign "Give books with love!" and set the task to turn the action "Give books with love!" into an annual large-scale event in support of children's reading and to revive the tradition of book donation in society.

Municipal libraries of the city of Irkutsk did not stand aside, having previously registered on the website of the organizers of the action. Libraries No. 10, 14, 16, 17, 26, 31, 32 A.V. Potanina and the Children's Library. A.S. Pushkin took an active part in the celebration of the Book Giving Day. The libraries arranged exhibitions of books “To our readers - a book as a gift!”, “We give books with love”, from which readers were invited to take books as a gift in memory of this wonderful day. The exhibitions were decorated with books for all ages and different genres.

Inviting readers to the exhibition, librarians told about the history of the holiday. “The initiative for its appearance belongs to one ordinary person - the American Emmy Broadmoor, the founder of a children's book website in the United States. Emmy Broadmoor is the mother of three children. It was the question of one of the sons who once asked his mother why there is no such day in the year when people give books to each other just like that, and became the impetus for the birth of a new significant holiday. Initially addressing her fellow bloggers, social network users, colleagues and site partners through her communication channels, Emmy initiated the annual Book Giving Day on February 14 in 2012.

For readers of Library No. 32, in addition to the exhibition, a small quiz on the books “Who is the owner of the little thing” was prepared, during which it was necessary to get any item or piece of paper with a question out of the basket and guess which work they belong to. After the correct answer to the question, the participants of the action chose a gift book.

In Library No. 14, local authors Arnold Kharitonov and Nadezhda Chernyshova presented their books as gifts to readers. Librarians, in turn, presented information about these authors at the exhibition.

Our readers liked the idea of this holiday very much. Adults and children enthusiastically took books, found something interesting in them for themselves and were sincerely upset if there was no particular book they needed. This event brought a revival to the usual rhythm of the working day. With gratitude and a wish to organize such holidays as often as possible, the readers left the libraries.

The donation of books became possible thanks to the residents of the city of Irkutsk, who throughout the previous year brought us books from their personal libraries free of charge.

The most large-scale event was the book donation action organized by the Council of Young Specialists of the CLS of the city of Irkutsk. Great help in organizing gift-books was provided by readers and employees of the Central City Library. Potanina. (photo 5) These were brightly illustrated, interesting books for our friends - pupils of boarding school No. 20 for children with problems of the musculoskeletal system. The school already knows librarians and is always happy to meet you. So on February 14, the librarians did not have time to arrive, when the young assistants immediately dismantled the boxes with gifts, and the kids organized an escort to the assembly hall. It should be noted that the boarding school is not a government institution, but a large and friendly family. Here everything is done together: they study, help each other, have a rest, and, of course, celebrate holidays together too. Almost all pupils from toddlers to graduates gathered in the assembly hall. And the holiday has begun! It turns out that not only librarians know about Book Giving Day. And among our friends there were connoisseurs of this holiday. And all the guys learned how to celebrate this day so that it will be remembered for a long time.

The fun has begun. Of course, the most favorite books for children are fairy tales. And how many favorite fairy-tale characters does each child have? Do not count. But we decided not just to remember them, but to make fabulous pairs of characters. The Serpent Gorynych had Baba Yaga in a pair, and Kolobok had a fox. The children vying with each other recalled the heroes of Russian folk tales and paired them up. Having plunged into the magical world of books, they remembered that in ancient times fairy tales were told by storytellers. And the image of the storyteller-narrator is a kind grandmother in a headscarf. And we found such a magic scarf and each of the children wanted to try it on. This is how the fun game “Handkerchiefs” turned out, in which each child in turn had to tie a scarf on his neighbor’s head. And it doesn't matter who is sitting next to you, a girl or a boy, everyone actively and cheerfully joined the game.

Well, if actors participate in the performance, the holiday turns out to be bright and memorable. And if almost all the kids want to be actors? Then a whole fairy tale is set. And now on the stage the debut of young, but very talented children. This time, the well-known fairy tales "Turnip" and "Kolobok" were staged in a new way: each hero had only one phrase. But thanks to the talent of young artists, the fairy tales turned out to be unusually funny and interesting.

The young specialists of the CLS left, but the books donated to the pupils of boarding school No. 20 will please the children for a long time: they will help them learn a lot of new and interesting things, decorate their leisure time, and simply cheer up if someone is sad.

The second all-Russian action "Give books with love!" at Moore County Libraries.

A book is one of the most wise and precious gifts that we can give to our loved ones and friends. On February 14, the International Book Giving Day, 12 libraries of the centralized library system of the Murom district joined the all-Russian campaign “Give books with love”. The main idea of the holiday is to inspire people around the world to give children good books and show that a paper book remains a relevant gift and does not lose its value even in the age of technology. Both the staff of the Central Library Service, and our regular readers, and our friends responded to the action - they donated practically new editions to the libraries.

Together with readers - donors, book exhibitions "Give books with love" and "I recommend", "I read a book and I give it to you" were arranged. As part of the action, various events were held in libraries: the quiz “My friend is a book”, the presentation “Amazing books”, the literary game “Journey through the country of Marshak”, “In the colorful world of books”, the contest “Why I want to give this book”, a literary lesson "Country Journal". In the foyer of the Central Library, a bookcrossing “Give books with love” was launched. Here, readers could choose their favorite book and take it as a gift. And for young readers, the library staff held a master class on making a “Bookmark for Books” using the appliqué technique. On this day, the library-branch No. 5 invited readers to an evening - a portrait "Zigzags of fate and the triumphal arch of the writer Remarque" from the series "Historical and artistic kaleidoscope". Many of them came with gifts, and the library workers, in turn, presented beautiful bookmarks with the symbols of the action to all library visitors that day. This year the days of book giving coincided with Shrovetide week. And Maslenitsa is a national holiday! Cheerful festivities, good mood, tasty, plentiful treats. So the employees of the library-branch No. 1 decided to recall the traditions of our ancestors and treat the readers and guests of the library with lush, ruddy, mouth-watering pancakes with hot tea. Excitingly, together with Carlson, the children took part in a book tour. The children especially remembered the master class from the heroine of E. Uspensky, the harmful old woman Shapoklyak, on making bookmarks and postcard bookmarks. A pleasant surprise for children and adults in the children's library who took part in online quizzes were gifts from the library, hidden under beautiful packaging. In joyful anticipation, the guys themselves chose the prize and with great impatience immediately began to unfold it. Of course they were books. Rural residents also actively participated in the book donation campaign. The library of the military unit 45445 of the microdistrict "Verbovsky" is only 2 years old, and they still have few books. The employees of the library - branch No. 7 decided to give them a gift that day - to give books to diversify the free time of conscripts. They were very happy with the books. International Book Giving Day is over. 400 wonderful books have replenished the fund of libraries. But the action "Give books with love" continues - the bookcrossing cabinet in our libraries is replenished all year round. A huge thank you to all book donors! !!

For the second year in a row, Russian book lovers are enthusiastically celebrating International Book Giving Day. Everyone has their favorite work and a scene in it that immediately rises before their eyes, one has only to close them, think and dream.

For me, it's Robin Sloan's Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore, with its endless shelving lost in the starry darkness. I know exactly what it's like to get the opportunity to give a good book to a loved one, and it's doubly nice to receive a long-awaited book as a gift. A book is the best gift, no matter what occasion you are going to please your loved one. The book can tell a lot not only about the person who is being given, but best of all it will tell about the person who gives. On February 14, librarians of the Centralized Library System of Irkutsk helped their readers to purchase books they were interested in.

The employees of the Central Children's Library took an active part in the International Book Giving Action with great pleasure and held an unforgettable mini-concert "Give books with love!" for patients and staff of the War Veterans Clinical Hospital. The librarians prepared several boxes of books with the campaign logo as gifts, and the volunteers filled the festive atmosphere with soulful songs. The songs were performed by the head and students of the theater studio "Debut" of the Irkutsk school No. 57. Lebedev Evgeny, dressed as a soldier, fervently sang songs of the front-line years, dancing to the beat of the accordion player to the friendly applause of pensioners. It was nice to look at the joyful faces of the veterans, someone sang along with the familiar motive of the song, someone furtively wiped away a tear, and someone simply enjoyed being in a friendly team.

To the Children's Library. A. S. Pushkin, preschoolers came and were surprised to find out that a new holiday had appeared, the Day of Giving Books, which unites everyone who gives books to children and instills in them a love of reading. In honor of this holiday, librarians presented the children with books from the series “Everything about everything”.

During the day, Library No. 1 broadcast videos dedicated to the all-Russian campaign “Give books with love”. On this day, the library was visited by many donors of books. They wrote reviews of the books they donated to the library, read their favorite excerpts from the works aloud, and then each donor put the book on the prepared stand - so, by the end of the day, it turned out to be a large exhibition “To the Library with Love”.

During the day, readers of the sector of local history literature of library No. 5 were told about the history of the celebration of the International Book Giving Day and each visitor of the library was given a book as a gift.

More than 60 books of excellent content and quality were selected as part of the holiday in library No. 8. On each of them, librarians pasted an emblem - "Book as a gift." Even more interesting and fun was the street part of the action. Library staff took out a table with books on the path in front of the library and invited passers-by to choose a book as a gift.

Library number 10 readers brought a lot of good books, magazines and albums on art. A small "book market", arranged on a wide window sill, attracted attention with its diversity. Library visitors looked with interest and chose books and magazines that they liked or needed. For example, one of the readers took the 4-volume Dictionary of the Russian Language for her student daughter. Long-published books on mathematics and physics were in demand, for example, “Entertaining Physics” by Ya.I. Perelman. Lasheva Victoria Alexandrovna brought magazines about Orthodox churches in Russia and other spiritual literature in excellent condition, which Lyubov Petrovna Fedotova took to take to the library of an Orthodox church. Adult readers liked the books of Irkutsk and Siberian writers from the series "Literary monuments of Siberia", "Modern Siberian novel". The guests of the exhibition had the opportunity to choose a book according to their mood and needs: historical novels, timeless foreign and Russian classics, travel books, detective stories and women's novels.

On the eve of the campaign “Our books are good, we give them to you from the bottom of our hearts!” in the Sinyushina Gora microdistrict, announcements about the upcoming event were posted. On International Book Giving Day, Library No. 14 organized two large book exhibitions: on loan and in the reading room. They presented books of various genres: adventure, detective story, fantasy, science fiction, fairy tales, love story, psychology, books of culinary recipes and books on health methods. Each book has found its reader. The day was held under the slogan "Good mood and pleasant reading to all!". Since the action was held on Valentine's Day, paper bookmarks in the form of hearts were inserted into each book.

Library №16 im. D.G. Sergeeva did not stay away from the wonderful holiday and held the action "Gift of the Selfless Soul". On this day, in addition to a kind of "donation platform", where each guest of the library could choose a book to his liking. Librarians collected and donated books through relatives to their readers with limited mobility who cannot visit the library on their own. Regular readers donate books to the library all year round, and not just on the day of the action, all the time, replenishing the bookcrossing rack. The librarians express their sincere gratitude to them!!!

In Library No. 17, on the Book Giving Day, a competition was held in which 14 schoolchildren took part. The essence of the competition was to present their favorite book - the guys made illustrations and wrote letters of recommendation to the future reader of this book, since the guys left the book as a gift to another participant in the competition. As a result, the best creative works were selected, which were determined by the participants themselves.

1st place was won by Savva Chistyakov (9 years old). He brought as a gift a book by Daniel Defoe "Robinson Crusoe", a meaningful drawing and a letter of recommendation, so that it would be easier to draw attention to the book and make its future owner want to read it immediately.

2nd place was awarded to Yulia Nevolina (9 years old). Her gift was a fresh issue of her favorite magazine "Sibiryachok" and a fascinating story about it.

3rd place was awarded to Shesheneva Vika (11 years old). She presented a book by Robert Lewis Stevenson "Treasure Island" and an envelope with an intriguing content. It contained a map with the exact location of the treasure and a frightening image of a pirate.

Employees of the library number 19 named after. V.P. Starodumov once again confirmed the well-known saying "A book is the best gift." On the eve of the books donated to the library, the most interesting ones were selected for gifts to readers. Some of the books were wrapped in paper, others were simply tied with a bright ribbon, and the table of gifts was decorated in the same way. Here, readers and library guests could not only choose a book as a gift, but also learn about ways to celebrate this unusual day. Starting in the morning, librarians congratulated readers on the Book Giving Day. Many immediately had a question: “What kind of holiday is this?”. And then the librarian spoke in detail about the idea and history of the holiday, about ways to properly celebrate it and invited everyone to join the action "A book for every reader as a gift." Some only smiled in response, others gladly agreed to receive this very gift. It's no secret that giving gifts is more pleasant than receiving. But the library staff decided not just to give a book, but also to play and have fun. Everyone who wished to take part in the action was given riddles, offered to guess riddles, answer the questions of a literary quiz. All this was very fun and recklessly. It is interesting to note that the children chose books packed in paper. For children, a book as a gift is also a surprise. And young people and adults approached the choice of gifts thoroughly - they took unpacked books, looked at the contents, read excerpts from the works.

The holiday turned out to be wonderful, readers and librarians received a charge of fun, smiles and good wishes.

On February 14, as part of the action, employees of the department of literature for children of the library No. 20 named after. E.A. Yevtushenko collected books for the Irkutsk Orphanage No. 1 for mentally retarded children. At the meeting, the librarians told the children about the history of this thematic day, held a fun quiz on cartoons and presented books that should please and please their readers. And also remembered that February 14 is also Valentine's Day. They also talked a little about this holiday and held a mini-master class on making a Valentine postcard, where the guys made a nice gift to their friends with their own hands.

During the day, there were racks with books and magazines in the lobby of the library, which any visitor could take, as well as leave his own as a gift to the library. A video exhibition was also held here, which demonstrated book trailers based on the best works of world literature.

“It's time for us to give you books,” said one young mother, a reader of library No. 26, in which the book donation action “Book is love” was held. Since many people associate February 14 only with Valentine's Day, the main symbol of Valentine's Day, the heart, was used to decorate the library exhibition. Red hearts immediately attracted the attention of readers, and when the library staff asked “What holiday is today?”, everyone called only “St. During the campaign, 20 books were donated. Only 20 books! But how many happy faces and radiant smiles!

It is very important on International Book Giving Day to give a book to those who need it, the librarians of the Children's Library No. 31 "Scarlet Sails" believe. The library funds are actively used by the educator of the special correctional school No. 6 Galkina Maria Petrovna. With great desire, with the help of books, magazines, she prepares for classes for her special, but beloved pupils. It was through her that the library staff learned that students would be very happy with new books. Librarians, of course, not without the help of readers, collected three boxes of books for different children's ages in the amount of 77 pieces. These are fairy tales with vivid illustrations, adventures for boys, romantic stories for girls, popular science publications. On each box was pasted the emblem of the Book Giving Day with the immortal statement of A.S. Pushkin "Reading is the best teaching!". Seeing these special children, you understand that they lack attention from the outside, you notice their spontaneity and joy from handing over the book. More than 100 children study at the school, and librarians hope that every child will find a book to their liking.

Library №37 takes part in the International Book Giving Day for the second year. During the “Give books with love” campaign, many children brought their favorite books as gifts to friends and the library. Each participant of the action presented his "gift", talked about why he wants to give this book. “Surprise books” were also presented at the exhibition, in which the guys put letters “Appeal to the next reader”. Participants of the action chose their favorite book-gift at the "Repertoire for Fashionable Reading" exhibition-collapse, thus, the book became a friend for its new owner.

"Book Giving Day" is a day for good deeds and an opportunity to do a good deed. With small good deeds, we teach to do good disinterestedly, from the heart. As part of the action, librarians and a group of children visited a young reader Lera at home, who, for health reasons, cannot come to the library, presented her with a selection of books of various content, as well as souvenirs made by members of the Skillful Hands club under the guidance of teacher Zhavoronkova Tatyana Alexandrovna .

We are confident that the books donated to those who need them will delight their readers for a long time.

The book is the best gift! Give each other books, and not only on Book Giving Day!
