Cytovir syrup dosage. Tsitovir - instructions for use

  • Syrups
  • Pills
  • Nasal drops
  • During the season of viral diseases, drugs that can strengthen the immune system and help the body overcome harmful pathogens are very relevant. One of them is “Tsitovir-3”. It is actively used in pediatric practice, prescribed to children of all ages.

    Release form

    "Tsitovir-3" is presented in pharmacies in three forms:

    • Syrup. It has a sweet taste and a yellowish color, but this medicine can also be colorless. The syrup is sold in dark glass bottles, and one bottle contains 50 ml of solution. To be able to accurately dose the medication, a dosing spoon is also placed in the box, which can be replaced with a measuring cup or dosing pipette.
    • Powder. It is also sold in dark glass or plastic bottles. One bottle contains 20 grams of white or white-yellow powder. It may have the smell of cranberry, orange or strawberry, so after adding water to the powder, the finished solution tastes like cranberry, orange or strawberry. There is also a neutral option - an odorless powder, which when mixed with water forms a sweet, tasteless solution. One or two dispensing devices, such as a measuring cup, are attached to the bottle.
    • Capsules. They have an orange lid and a white body, and inside there is a white powder without a specific odor. Capsules are packaged in blisters or plastic jars of 12 pieces (this amount of the drug is required for one course of treatment), and are also sold in packages of 24 and 48 pieces.

    Compound

    Each form of Cytovir-3 contains three active compounds:

    • Alpha glutamyl tryptophan in the form of sodium alpha glutamyl tryptophan (also called sodium thymogen). The amount of this compound in 1 ml of syrup or solution made from powder is 0.15 mg, and in the contents of one capsule - 0.5 mg.
    • Ascorbic acid. Its dosage in each milliliter of syrup, as well as in 1 ml of solution from powder form is 12 mg. One capsule contains this vitamin in an amount of 50 mg.
    • Bendazole hydrochloride, which is also called dibazole. This substance is contained in 1 ml of syrup or diluted powder in an amount of 1.25 mg, and in one capsule - in a dose of 20 mg.

    The only auxiliary components of Cytovir-3 in the syrup are water and sucrose, and the powder form includes fructose and strawberry, cranberry or orange flavors (only fructose is present in the neutral-tasting medicine). The contents of the capsules contain milk sugar and calcium stearate, and their shell is made of titanium dioxide, gelatin and several dyes.

    Operating principle

    "Tsitovir-3" refers to drugs with an immunostimulating effect, as it is able to stimulate the formation of interferon in the human body. Thanks to the activation of immune cells (mainly the T-cell component), the medication normalizes the state of the immune system, which helps fight infectious agents.

    This drug also has antiviral activity, in particular against influenza A and B viruses, as well as many other pathogens of respiratory diseases of a viral nature. Thanks to the inclusion of ascorbic acid, Cytovir-3 also affects humoral immunity. In addition, under the influence of this vitamin, capillary permeability is normalized, which helps suppress the inflammatory process.

    When taken orally, Tsitovir-3 is absorbed quite quickly. The highest bioavailability among the components of the drug is observed in vitamin C (about 90%) and bendazole (about 80%). But alpha-glutamyl-tryptophan is absorbed by only 15%. After entering the digestive tract, it is broken down into tryptophan and glutamic acid in L-forms. These amino acids are included in the process of peptide synthesis. Other active substances of the drug are converted into metabolites and leave the body in the urine.

    Indications

    The main reason for prescribing Cytovir-3 to children is influenza or other viral infection that affects the upper respiratory tract. The medicine is in demand both for the treatment of ARVI and influenza, and for their prevention.

    At what age is it allowed?

    The medicine in the form of powder or syrup is prescribed to children from 1 year of age. The packaging of these forms of the drug is marked “for children”. "Tsitovir-3" in capsules can be given to young patients over 6 years of age.

    Contraindications

    Any form of Cytovir-3 should not be used in young patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug. The syrup is also contraindicated in children with diabetes, as it contains a significant amount of sucrose. The powder form is also not used for diabetics, because it contains fructose.

    Side effects

    After taking Cytovir-3, blood pressure may decrease, but this effect is short-term and soon disappears.

    Some children develop an allergic reaction to this medication (most often it manifests itself as urticaria), which requires immediate discontinuation.

    Instructions for use

    The syrup is given to children undiluted, measuring the required volume of the drug with a pipette, glass or spoon. Before use, you need to make a liquid medicine from the powder by adding 40 ml of water inside the bottle. It should be boiled and cooled (no warmer than room temperature). The components must be mixed well so that the powder is completely dissolved. The result is 50 ml of solution.

    The regimen for taking syrup or a solution prepared from powder, if the patient is ill with ARVI or influenza, involves using the medicine three times over 4 days. The medication is given to the child to drink half an hour before meals in the following single dose:

    • if the patient is 1-3 years old - 2 ml;
    • if the child is 3-6 years old - 4 ml;
    • if the child’s age is from 6 to 10 years – 8 ml;
    • if the child is over 10 years old - 12 ml.

    The scheme for prophylactic administration of the syrup or solution "Tsitovir-3" is the same, but if necessary, the course can be repeated after 3 or 4 weeks.

    "Tsitovir-3" in capsules is also prescribed in a short course lasting 4 days. Children over six years of age take this medication one capsule three times a day, swallowing the medicine half an hour before meals and drinking clean water. If the drug is used for prophylactic purposes, then after 3-4 weeks the course of administration is repeated.

    Overdose

    There is no information in the instructions for Cytovir-3 about cases where a child took a large dose of the drug and this had an effect on his condition.

    Interaction with other drugs

    "Tsitovir-3" can be combined with many other medications, including drugs to reduce fever, cough and other drugs prescribed for acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. The manufacturer does not mention the incompatibility of syrup, capsules or powder with any medications.

    Terms of sale

    To purchase Cytovir-3 in syrup or powder, you must first get a prescription from your doctor, and capsules are over-the-counter products. One bottle of syrup costs about 380-400 rubles, for one bottle of powder you need to pay about 300-350 rubles. A package of 12 capsules costs 220-300 rubles, depending on the pharmacy.

    Storage conditions

    The recommended storage temperature for all forms of the drug is below +25 degrees Celsius, but the solution prepared from the powder should be placed in the refrigerator. To prevent accidental use of the medicine (especially in liquid form, which can attract children with its sweet taste), it is important to store Tsitovir-3 out of reach.

    The expiration date differs for different forms. The syrup should be used within 2 years from the date of manufacture, and the shelf life of the capsules is 3 years.

    As for the powder, inside a sealed bottle it can be stored for up to 3 years from the date of release, but after mixing with water it can be stored for no longer than 10 days.

    Read these instructions carefully before you start taking this medicine. Save the instructions, you may need them again.

    This medicine is available without a prescription. To achieve optimal results, it should be used strictly following all recommendations outlined in the instructions. If you have any questions, consult your doctor. Contact your doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve after 3 days.

    The medicine you are using is intended for you personally and should not be given to others as it may cause harm even if you have the same symptoms as you.

    Description:

    The syrup is colorless to yellow.

    Pharmacotherapeutic group:

    Immunostimulating agent.

    ATX code:

    J03AX

    Pharmachologic effect:

    The drug is a means of etiotropic and immunostimulating therapy, has an antiviral effect against influenza A and B viruses and other viruses that cause acute respiratory diseases.

    The drug reduces the severity of the main clinical symptoms of influenza and ARVI, and also shortens the duration of symptoms of the disease.

    Bendazole induces the body's production of endogenous interferon and has an immunomodulatory effect (normalizes the body's immune response). Enzymes, the production of which is induced by interferon in the cells of various organs, inhibit viral replication.

    Alpha-glutamyl-tryptophan (thymogen) is a synergist for the immunomodulatory effect of bendazole, normalizing the T-cell component of immunity.

    Ascorbic acid activates the humoral component of the immune system, normalizes capillary permeability, thereby reducing inflammation, and exhibits antioxidant properties, neutralizing oxygen radicals that accompany the inflammatory process, and increases the body's resistance to infection.

    Pharmacokinetics:
    When taken orally, the drug is completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The bioavailability of bendazole is about 80%, alpha-glutamyl tryptophan is no more than 15%, and ascorbic acid is 70%. Ascorbic acid is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract (mainly in the jejunum). Communication with plasma proteins – 25%. TCmax after oral administration – 4 hours. Easily penetrates into leukocytes, platelets, and then into all tissues, penetrates the placenta. Gastrointestinal diseases (peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, intestinal motility disorders, helminthic infestation, giardiasis), consumption of vegetable and fruit juices, and alkaline drinking reduce the binding of ascorbic acid in the intestine. Ascorbic acid is metabolized primarily in the liver into deoxyascorbic acid, then into oxaloacetic and diketogulonic acids. It is excreted by the kidneys, through the intestines, with sweat, breast milk unchanged and in the form of metabolites. The products of bendazole biotransformation in the blood are two conjugates formed as a result of methylation and carboethoxylation of the imino group of the imidazole ring of bendazole: 1-methyl-2-benzylbenzimidazole and 1-carboethoxy-2-benzylbenzimidazole. Bendazole metabolites are excreted in the urine. Alpha-glutamyl-tryptophan is broken down by peptidases into L-glutamic acid and L-tryptophan, which are used by the body in protein synthesis.

    Indications for use:

    Prevention and complex therapy of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in children over one year of age.

    Contraindications:

    Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy, children under 1 year of age. If necessary, please consult your doctor before taking the drug.

    Precautions for use.

    Consult your doctor before taking the drug if you have hypotension.

    Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding:

    During pregnancy, taking the drug is not indicated due to insufficient clinical data. During breastfeeding, use is possible if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the child. If you need to take the drug during breastfeeding, please consult your doctor.

    Directions for use and dosage:

    The regimens for therapeutic and prophylactic use are identical.
    Orally 30 minutes before meals.
    Children aged 1 to 3 years – 2 ml 3 times a day;
    Children aged 3 to 6 years – 4 ml 3 times a day;
    Children aged 6 to 10 years – 8 ml 3 times a day;
    Children over 10 years old – 12 ml 3 times a day.

    Course of application – 4 days. If after 3 days of treatment there is no improvement or the symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear, you should consult your doctor.

    If necessary, the prophylactic course is repeated after 3-4 weeks.

    Take the drug only according to the method of use and the doses indicated in the instructions. Use the drug only according to the indications indicated in the instructions. If necessary, please consult your doctor before taking the drug.

    Side effects:

    Short-term reduction in blood pressure. Rarely allergic reactions are possible: urticaria. In these cases, the use of the drug is stopped and symptomatic treatment and antihistamines are prescribed.

    Consult your doctor if you experience any of the side effects mentioned or other side effects not listed in the instructions. If the side effects listed in the instructions get worse, tell your doctor.

    Overdose:

    Cases of overdose have not been described.

    Interaction with other drugs:

    No interaction of alpha-glutamyl-tryptophan with drugs has been identified. Bendazole prevents the increase in total peripheral vascular resistance caused by the use of non-selective beta-blockers. Strengthens the hypotensive (lowering blood pressure) effect of antihypertensive and diuretic drugs. Phentolamine enhances the hypotensive effect of bendazole. Ascorbic acid increases the concentration in the blood of antibacterial drugs of the tetracycline series and benzylpenicillin. Improves absorption of Fe preparations in the intestines. Reduces the effectiveness of heparin and indirect anticoagulants. Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), oral contraceptives, fresh juices and alkaline drinks reduce its absorption and absorption. When used simultaneously with ASA, the urinary excretion of ascorbic acid increases and the excretion of ASA decreases. ASA reduces the absorption of ascorbic acid by approximately 30%. Ascorbic acid increases the risk of developing crystalluria when using drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and short-acting sulfonamides, slows down the excretion of acids by the kidneys, increases the excretion of drugs with an alkaline reaction (including alkaloids), and reduces the concentration in the blood of oral contraceptives. When used simultaneously, it reduces the chronotropic effect of isoprenaline. Reduces the therapeutic effect of antipsychotic drugs (neuroleptics) - phenothiazine derivatives, tubular reabsorption of amphetamine and tricyclic antidepressants. Barbiturates and primidone increase the excretion of ascorbic acid in the urine.

    Possible simultaneous use with antiviral drugs and symptomatic treatment of influenza and ARVI.

    Consult your doctor if you are taking other medications listed in this section.

The drug is praised for its effectiveness and reliable protection; many people like the variety of its dosage forms.

    Here are a few reviews that have been received in recent days.

    Borislava: My children are susceptible to various viruses, and as soon as my eldest daughter went to kindergarten, my youngest son had to get sick along with her. I became interested in means that would not only help us recover, but also prevent the disease, that is, I became interested in prevention. I went through a lot of things: sometimes the remedy is ineffective, and sometimes it seems to be effective, but the price is such that it is impossible to approach. And yet, I found a remedy that helps well and, although not worth a penny, can still be purchased. A friend recommended the drug Cytovir when she saw how we were suffering. Now, having completed several courses, my daughter goes to kindergarten calmly and no one is sick at home.

    Galina Viktorovna: I am very surprised when parents try to stuff their children with immunostimulants. Yes, I agree, if you take it on time, then the disease will practically disappear without even starting, but how can a baby acquire his own immunity.

    Zhanna: When our son, who had only been sick for a year and a month, had a cold, I bought him candles and, in general, his recovery was quick and good. However, despite the effectiveness of the drug, the form of its application left much to be desired, at least in our case. The baby screamed and squirmed, apparently experiencing discomfort. I thought about changing the drug and, after consulting with the pediatrician, I brought home Cytovir in the form of syrup and I don’t regret it at all. It is very convenient to take, the taste is pleasant and the baby is treated with pleasure.

    During seasonal diseases, various antiviral drugs are popular. They are often used for preventive purposes, especially if there is a child in the house. Cytovir-3 is a similar drug, but its main task is to stimulate the immune system. Next, we will consider in more detail its action, indications for use, side effects and analogues available in pharmacies.

    Tsitovir-3 is a drug for the treatment and prevention of ARVI in children

    Description and composition of the drug Cytovir

    Tsitovir-3 is a combination drug that has an immunostimulating effect and is also an antiviral agent. The composition is a combination of three active ingredients:

    1. Bendazole - this substance promotes the production of endogenous interferon, which stimulates the immune system. Bendazole uses the body's internal reserves to restore immune processes.
    2. Thymogen - works in tandem with bendazole, enhancing its effect. Has an effect on T cells.
    3. Vitamin C – relieves various inflammations, affects the implementation of one of the components of immunity, restores and strengthens blood vessels, and is an antioxidant.

    The combination of these substances suggests the high effectiveness of the drug. The properties of bendazole, which force the body to increase the production of its own interferon, have been known for a long time. However, with prolonged use of this substance, its beneficial qualities decrease.

    It turned out that the effectiveness of bendazole can be extended with the help of another substance - Thymogen. Ascorbic acid strengthens the walls of blood vessels, working as a blocker of the spread of the inflammatory process.

    Taking the drug reduces the risk of getting sick during an epidemic. If infection occurs and the child gets sick, Tsitovir will help you go through all stages of the disease more easily and avoid complications.

    In this case, the drug is taken together with other medications that have to be used during ARVI; it combines well with symptomatic therapy.

    Tsitovir-3 helps a child get over the flu easier

    Release form

    Cytovir-3 is available in several forms - in the form of syrup, capsules, and also powder from which the solution is prepared.

    1. The solution is diluted as follows: pour 40 ml of boiled water into a bottle with powder, shake well until a homogeneous liquid is obtained. The result is 50 ml of suspension. The syrup and solution are used for children from one year old. In exceptional cases, the pediatrician may prescribe it to the infant.
    2. Capsules are a gelatin shell containing powder inside. In addition to bendazole, tryptophan and ascorbic acid, the tablets contain lactose and calcium stearate as excipients. Capsules are used from 6 years.

    The syrup contains sucrose, and the solution contains fructose and flavoring. It is necessary to measure the required amount of the drug using a measuring cup.

    Tsitovir-3 capsules are used for children from six years of age

    Indications for use

    Tsitovir-3 is used in complex therapy for acute respiratory viral infections and various types of influenza. In addition, the product is used to prevent viral diseases. The instructions indicate the following:

    • rotavirus infections;
    • angina;
    • swine flu;
    • ARVI.

    At the same time, some experts are very cool about immunomodulatory drugs that can inhibit the activity of viruses. For example, Dr. Komarovsky believes that for the treatment of ARVI or influenza, the only correct solution is to provide the patient with conditions for a speedy recovery. These include warm drinks, bed rest, and medications that reduce fever.

    In addition, it is important not to overheat the child and provide him with access to fresh air. If improvements do not occur within 3-4 days, the temperature will be elevated, you should consult a doctor. Based on the examination and blood test, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics (if a bacterial infection is diagnosed).

    Treatment of colds in children, in addition to medications, should be accompanied by bed rest and plenty of fluids.

    Dosage and rules of use

    Like other drugs of similar action, Cytovir should be taken at the start of the disease.

    It is also possible to start taking it on the first day after the onset of symptoms. In this case, there is a chance that the disease will be mild and the child will recover faster. If you start taking it later, the virus will have time to spread throughout the body, and the effectiveness of the drug will be much lower.

    It is advisable to take the drug before meals, making sure that at least half an hour passes between taking the medication and the meal. How much syrup should a child be given to avoid viral diseases? The preventive and therapeutic course schemes are the same - drink 3 times a day for 4 days. Sometimes a repeat course is prescribed, but not earlier than after 3 weeks.

    For preventive purposes, the drug should be taken in the same dosage as for therapeutic purposes. It is advisable to repeat the four-day course every month during the season of viral diseases.

    It is important to start treatment for ARVI with Citrovir at the first sign of a cold

    Side effects and contraindications

    Side effects from taking the drug do not occur often, including in children. In very rare cases, the patient experiences a decrease in blood pressure. Allergic manifestations are also possible - hives, rash, itching of the skin.

    If a child has an individual intolerance to one or more components of the drug, he should choose another remedy. We will consider analogues of Tsitovir below.

    The medication is prescribed with caution to allergy sufferers, those diagnosed with bronchial asthma, as well as people with heart failure. If the patient has hypotension, this drug will not suit him.

    In case of an overdose of the drug, a decrease in blood pressure is observed, and malfunctions of the liver and kidneys are also possible. Heartburn, nausea, and pancreatic dysfunction are possible. Long-term use of capsules or suspensions can provoke a change in the blood formula - the number of red blood cells will decrease, and the number of platelets will increase.

    Advantages and disadvantages of Tsitovir

    Taking Tsitovir in a short time improves the child’s immunity

    For those who cannot decide whether or not to take the drug, we will list its pros and cons. The advantages of Tsitovir include:

    1. Variability of release forms. It is more convenient for a small child to give a syrup or solution that has a sweet taste. It is easier for a student to take a capsule with water. That is, the medication is suitable for both children and adults.
    2. Short reception period. It is enough to drink Cytovir-3 for 4 days to protect yourself from the virus.
    3. The unique composition of the drug makes it possible to increase its effectiveness several times compared to similar products.

    There are also disadvantages of Tsitovir. We will list the most obvious of them:

    1. Today in pharmacies you can find drugs with a similar effect a little cheaper.
    2. The medicine is not used for children under one year of age.
    3. Cytovir is not produced in the form of suppositories, despite several forms of release. Candles are convenient for use in children under 2 years of age.
    4. The solution is not suitable for prevention, since the prepared drug must be used within a month. Preventive therapy may last for a longer period.
    5. Not all pediatricians believe in the effectiveness of the medication. In reality, it is not easy to prove its work. Reviews about Cytovir are mixed - some patients talk about high effectiveness, while others do not see results.

    It is advisable to ensure that the child spends enough time in the fresh air, eats well and is physically active. In this case, the likelihood of getting sick is reduced, and the use of specific immunomodulatory drugs is not required.

    During seasonal colds, every parent wants to protect their child from virus attacks. Modern pharmacology offers more and more new means of fighting infections every year.

    Recently, the drug “Citovir 3” has become very popular. This remedy effectively affects the immune system, increases the body's defense response against viruses, and develops resistance. For children, it is optimal to use the product in the form of a syrup or emulsion.

    Composition and pharmacological properties

    Cytovir 3 is an immunomodulator, the action of which is determined by the complex of substances that it contains.

    The syrup consists of 3 biologically active components:

    • Ascorbic acid is an antioxidant substance that stimulates cells to develop resistance to viruses.
    • Bendazole - promotes the synthesis of enzymes that blunt the replication function of viruses, and is a catalyst for the production of natural interferon.
    • Thymogen sodium - affects the T-cell component of the immune system, enhances the immunomodulatory effect of bendazole.

    Indications for use

    Cytovir 3 is used for various purposes. It is effective for the prevention and treatment of viral infections at an early stage. The syrup is given to children during the period of active spread of viruses.

    Indications:

    • prevention and treatment;
    • prevention of influenza type A and B, as well as their treatment as part of complex therapy.

    Syrup and suspension can be prescribed to children after 1 year.

    Contraindications

    • children under one year old;
    • diabetes;
    • Lyme disease;
    • ascariasis;
    • amoebiasis;
    • individual intolerance.

    Possible side effects

    In most cases, the syrup is well tolerated by children. Sometimes unpleasant symptoms may appear:

    • nausea, heartburn;
    • allergic reaction in the form of hives, itching, redness of the skin;
    • pancreatic dysfunction (hyperglycemia, glycosuria);
    • changes in blood composition (decrease in red blood cells, increase in platelets);
    • headache;
    • dizziness;
    • excessive excitability;
    • difficulty breathing;

    Instructions for use and dosage

    For children, syrup is a more convenient form of medicine than capsules or tablets. According to the instructions, it should be taken half an hour before meals. This way the drug is better absorbed by the body. When compiling a dosage, it is necessary to take into account the age of the patient. In addition to the dosage, you must observe the frequency of administration. The most optimal is to consume syrup three times a day.

    Drug dosages:

    The syrup is sold in pharmacies in finished form. But children can use the suspension. To prepare a suspension for children from powder you need:

    • boil and cool water;
    • pour 40 ml of warm water into a container with powder;
    • close the bottle with a lid and mix the contents thoroughly until the powder is completely dissolved;
    • the suspension should be 50 ml.

    Interaction with other drugs

    The components of the drug may interact with medications in different ways. How thymogen is combined with other drugs has not been fully studied. It is not recommended to use phentolamine products with Cytovir 3. When combined with bendazole, the hypotensive effect increases.

    Ascorbic acid in the composition of the medication reduces the effectiveness of heparin and anticoagulants. Aspirin helps reduce the absorption of ascorbic acid in the body. Barbiturates accelerate the excretion of vitamin C from the body in the urine. If Tsitovir is used in parallel with tetracycline or penicillin antibiotics, the level of antibacterial substances in the blood may increase.

    Cost and analogues

    The price of Tsitovir 3 syrup is 350-400 rubles, the volume of the bottle is 50 ml. There are no complete analogues of the drug in composition today. Similar drugs according to pharmacological action:

    Before changing the drug, you should consult your doctor. Unauthorized selection of analogues can lead to unpleasant consequences. Almost all immunomodulators have their own contraindications and side effects that need to be taken into account.
