Candid dental solution. How to use Candide solution for the oral cavity in children and newborns: indications for use

One of the most common diseases among newborns and infants is candidiasis, or as it is also popularly called thrush, or yeast infection. It is caused by the fact that the fungus Candida Albicans develops abundantly in the child’s oral cavity, causing the infant a feeling of discomfort in the mouth, and in severe stages - pain. The fungus affects precisely those places on the tongue and palate of a newborn that are involved in food intake, that is, in the process of absorbing milk from the mother's breast or baby food from a bottle. Due to unpleasant sensations in the mouth, the child refuses to eat, becomes irritable and restless, but there is an effective remedy for this disease - Candida, let's look at how to use it.

Properties, composition and release form of the drug "Candide"

Candide is a colorless, slightly viscous, odorless liquid. This is an antifungal agent, the solution of which contains:

  • 10 mg of the active substance Clotrimazole;
  • propylene glycol (excipient);
  • glycerin (glycerol is an excipient).

Candida drops are available without any prescription and are always available in all pharmacies. The medicine is placed in a plastic bottle, which is packed in a cardboard box along with instructions for use. The neck of the bottle is made in the form of a kind of dispenser, with which it is convenient to count the required number of drops. A photo of the drug can be seen in the article.

Indications for use

The drug, being a broad-spectrum fungicidal agent, is equally good against all fungal diseases of the skin and intracavitary mucous membranes caused by microorganisms sensitive to this drug, therefore the supervising (attending) doctor can prescribe Candide drops not only to newborns and infants, and not only when symptoms of thrush occur. List of main diseases that can be cured in young children with the help of a solution:

  • candidiasis (thrush);
  • gum gingivitis;
  • stomatitis;
  • angulitis of the corners of the mouth.

  • urethritis;
  • pharyngomycosis;
  • vaginal candidiasis;
  • dermatomycosis;
  • lichen versicolor.

Contraindications for children

Candida drops are contraindicated for use in children in whom the components of the drug can cause allergic reactions. To avoid serious consequences, before taking the drug, consult with your doctor or personal supervising physician. It is not recommended to use Candide for newborns in combination with other oral medications.

Instructions for use of different forms of the drug

The drug is available in different forms. It can take the form of drops (as mentioned above), or can also be produced in the form of:

Each of the forms, in accordance with the instructions for the drug Candide, has its own specific application, which will be discussed in more detail below. To ensure that the drug does not cause noticeable side effects, it should be used with caution, avoiding contact of the drug with the mucous membrane of the eyes.

Solution (drops)

In the form of liquid (drops), the drug is used only for external local use. Apply it to the skin or mucous membrane in a thin layer, while lightly rubbing. Usually, cotton pads are used for this purpose; for infants, you can use a cotton swab, manually strengthening it with another layer of cotton wool for convenience.

The liquid solution is applied to a stick - up to 20 drops, then the child is lubricated with areas of the oral cavity affected by thrush or stomatitis. This is done 2-3 times a day.

As a rule, thrush goes away within a few days; it may take a little longer to get rid of stomatitis. Often mothers prefer to use a spray instead of a solution.

When treating mycosis of the feet, before using the composition, you must thoroughly wash your feet with neutral soap (medium).

In some cases, the doctor may prescribe injection of the drug into the urethra (in the case of urethritis). To do this, you need to put a special attachment on the bottle, which can be purchased at the pharmacy. The nozzle is inserted into the urethra to a depth of 2 cm, after which the product is injected there. The disease is completely cured within a week.

Gel and cream

Typically the gel is used to treat the vagina. Just like in the Candide solution, the active substance here is Clotrimazole. The gel is inserted into the vagina using a special applicator filled with 5 g of the drug. The duration of treatment with the cream is 6 days.

When using Candide-B cream (for eczema and other fungal infections), apply it in a small amount to the affected area and rub in thoroughly. Before using the cream, the body area should be thoroughly washed with soap and wiped dry.

Candles

Vaginal tablets or suppositories Candid-B6 are used 1 tablet (suppository) once a day. After completing a 6-day course of treatment and examination by the attending physician, the course can be extended or re-prescribed. Due to prenatal treatment (cleaning) of the birth canal, a single injection of one tablet (suppository) into the vaginal cavity is sufficient.

Powder

The powder is an imidazole derivative. It has the power to change the structure of pathogenic organisms, as a result of which they die. To get rid of fungal infections, the powder is applied 3 times a day to the affected areas of the body. Treatment is carried out until the symptoms disappear completely, which is observed within several days.

Side effects

When using Candida solution, you need to be prepared for the fact that undesirable local reactions may occur - itching and tingling, as well as more acute painful sensations. The use of Candida medication may be accompanied by the appearance of a small rash. In rare cases, systemic side effects such as nausea, vomiting or dizziness occur.

When using the solution in the genital areas, a burning sensation may occur. The urge to urinate becomes more frequent. Women may experience increased secretion of intravaginal secretions.

The product is contraindicated for use by women in the first trimester of pregnancy and people with hypersensitivity to the components of the constituent substances. Nursing mothers should take the drops with caution.

Analogues of the drug

Nowadays, almost any medicine has its own both foreign and domestic analogues. Candide is no exception, whose analogues are discussed in more detail below. Similar drugs include Cartisone, Clotrimazole and the most common Nystatin. The first two drugs belong to the group based on Clotrimazole, while the latter has a different component as its active ingredient.

Kanizon

This drug is available, as in the case of Candida, in the form of solutions, ointments for external use, vaginal creams and tablets. The active ingredient is also Clotrimazole. In general, the properties, specifics of use, doses and side effects are similar to the previous remedy. The cure time and the effect on the fungus are as strong as in the case of the previous remedy.

Clotrimazole

The release forms are similar to previous products. Vaginal suppositories in the form of white biconvex vaginal tablets are the most potent product, containing 100 mg of the active substance of the same name. Also widely in demand are 1% cream for external use, 2% cream for intravaginal use, antifungal ointment and 1% solution for external use.

Pharmacological properties, dosage, methods of application and side effects are generally similar to previous drugs. The dosage of the main active ingredient clotrimazole is also similar in content to the above-mentioned agents.

Nystatin

Nystatin is also an antifungal fungicidal drug that effectively copes with yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida (we recommend reading: treatment of fungus in the mouth in adults). As with the previous ones, it is produced in the form of ointments, suppositories and solutions, with the only difference that here the main active ingredient is the substance of the same name Nystatin.

The drug has similar characteristics for use and can be prescribed to patients suffering from intolerance to the active substance Clotrimazole. Despite the fact that this drug is an analogue of the above drugs, its effect is much weaker, and therefore the duration of treatment with this drug is usually two or more times longer.

Solution for external use.

Basic physical and chemical properties: colorless transparent viscous liquid.

Pharmacological group

Antifungal drugs for topical use. Imidazole and triazole derivatives.

ATX code D01A C01.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacological.

Clotrimazole is an imidazole derivative, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent. The mechanism of its action is to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol, which is necessary for the construction of the cell membrane of fungi, which leads to a disruption of its permeability and further destruction of the cell. In addition, clotrimazole inhibits the activity of peroxidases, which further facilitates the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in the fungal cell. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide rises to a toxic level, which leads to further cell destruction.

Clotrimazole has a wide spectrum of action: effective against dermatophytes, yeast fungi; exhibits an antibacterial effect against pathogens of erythrasma, staphylococci ( Staphylococcus spp.) and streptococci ( Streptococcus spp.)

Pharmacokinetics.

When applied to the skin, it penetrates into the stratum corneum of the skin and accumulates there. When applied externally, a small amount of the drug is absorbed through the skin. Practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation.

Indications

Fungal diseases of the skin and mucous membranes caused by pathogens sensitive to clotrimazole.

Lichen versicolor, erythrasma.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or other components of the drug. Hypersensitivity to other imidazole drugs.

Interaction with other drugs and other types of interactions

Clotrimazole inhibits the action of other antifungal drugs for external use, in particular amphotericin, nystatin and natamycin.

The antimicrobial effect of clotrimazole is enhanced by high concentrations of hydroxybenzoic acid propyl ester.

Dexamethasone in high doses inhibits the antifungal effect of clotrimazole.

Features of application

The drug is intended for use only in dermatological practice.

The use of the drug in ophthalmic practice is prohibited. Avoid contact of the drug with the eyes. Do not use in the eye area.

DO NOT scratch affected areas of the body that itch, as this will spread the disease.

There are reports of cross-hypersensitivity reactions, therefore, in the event of an allergic reaction to any antifungal agent from the group of imidazole derivatives, the possibility of such a reaction to another drug in this group should be kept in mind. If an allergic reaction occurs, treatment with clotrimazole should be discontinued.

Application of the solution to the genital area (external genitalia and perineum in women or glans penis and foreskin in men) may reduce the effectiveness and safety of latex products such as condoms and diaphragms. This effect is temporary and may only occur during treatment.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

Clinical studies on the effect of clotrimazole on fertility in women have not been conducted, but animal studies have not revealed the effect of clotrimazole on fertility.

The number of studies using clotrimazole during pregnancy is limited. Animal studies have shown no direct or indirect harmful effects in terms of reproductive toxicity. As a precautionary measure, it is advisable to avoid the use of clotrimazole during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment with clotrimazole.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles or other mechanisms

Does not affect.

Directions for use and doses

For adults, apply Candide solution to the affected areas 2-3 times a day until the symptoms of the disease disappear. The disappearance of symptoms is expected after a course of treatment during the following period:

  • dermatomycosis - 3-4 weeks;
  • Erythrasma - 2-4 weeks;
  • pityriasis versicolor - 1-3 weeks.

After the disappearance of subjective symptoms, to ensure the effectiveness of treatment, depending on the disease, it is necessary to continue using Candida solution for another 2 weeks.

Children

There is no experience with the use of Candide solution in children, so it should not be used in this category of patients.

Overdose

There is no risk of acute intoxication since overdose is unlikely to occur after a single vaginal dose or application to the skin (use over large areas of skin under conditions conducive to increased absorption), as well as after accidental oral use. There is no specific antidote.

In case of accidental oral use, gastric lavage may rarely be necessary if a life-threatening dose has been administered within the previous hour or if there are visible symptoms of overdose (for example, dizziness, nausea or vomiting). Gastric lavage should only be performed in cases where there is adequate respiratory protection.

Article publication date: 10/25/2017

Article updated date: November 27, 2018

This medicine is used topically to treat thrush, a fungal infection of the oral mucosa. Candide is a highly effective drug that eliminates thrush in more than 80% of patients.

This drug, according to the instructions, can only be used in adults, since there is not enough data on its use in children. Although the solution is successfully prescribed by many doctors for the treatment of oral thrush even for infants, up to 3 years of age it is better to use the drugs approved by it - for example, nystatin or miconazole.

Candida solution is prescribed by dermatologists, dentists, therapists, and pediatricians.

Release form

Candide oral solution is available in 15 ml bottles with a dropper stopper and a cap. The bottle is hidden in a cardboard box.

Mechanism of action

The active ingredient of Candide solution is clotrimazole. This is an antifungal agent belonging to the imidazoles group, which has a wide spectrum of action. Clotrimazole inhibits the growth of pathogenic fungi by disrupting the permeability of their cell membranes. More precisely, it inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol and other sterols in fungal cells, and these substances are necessary for the creation and maintenance of cell membranes.

Indications and contraindications

What you need to tell your doctor before starting to use Candida

Before starting to apply the solution, be sure to tell your doctor information about:

  • existing or planned pregnancy;
  • breastfeeding;
  • taking any medications, herbal remedies, dietary supplements or traditional medicine;
  • if you are allergic to any medicine, food or other substance;
  • presence of liver diseases.

Certain drugs may interact with clotrimazole. You need to tell your doctor exactly what medications you are taking. Particular attention should be paid to ergot alkaloids (eg, ergotamine), imatinib, macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus) or pimozide, as the risk of side effects of these drugs may increase. In such cases, the doctor may stop using clotrimazole or another drug or change their dosage.

Mode of application

The product is applied only to the affected areas of the mucous membrane. To do this, you need to drip 10–20 drops onto a cotton swab, which you need to carefully treat all areas of fungal plaque. This procedure must be repeated 3-4 times a day, preferably at the same time, after meals. The course of treatment usually lasts 7–10 days. If during this time the symptoms of the disease have not disappeared, you should consult a doctor again.

You cannot stop using the drug immediately after eliminating the signs of the disease; you need to complete the full course of treatment. Otherwise, the risk of re-developing thrush in the near future is quite high, since Candida may not yet have time to destroy all the fungi. Also, after an incomplete course of treatment, fungi may become resistant to the action of clotrimazole and other antifungal drugs, which complicates further treatment.

If you miss applying the solution, do it as quickly as possible. If there is very little time left until the next scheduled use of the drug, forget about the missed dose and use Candide as scheduled. There is no need to apply two doses of the drug at once.

Use in children

For children over 3 years of age, the dose and frequency of application of the drug is indicated by the doctor. Usually, children are recommended to put 2-3 drops of solution on a cotton swab, then treat the affected areas of the mucous membrane with it. In young children, the frequency of use should not exceed 3 times. The product should be applied after feeding the baby.

Special instructions that the patient needs to know

Important information about the safety of using Candide solution:

  • While using the drug, a laboratory examination of the condition of the liver may be necessary.
  • Candida Oral Solution should not be used on children under 3 years of age. The safety and effectiveness of its use in this age group have not been studied.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, you must inform your doctor. You need to discuss with him all the benefits and risks of using Candida solution during pregnancy. Only a doctor can evaluate these data and decide on the possibility of using the drug. It is not known whether clotrimazole passes into breast milk from solution, so the drug can be used during breastfeeding only when the expected benefit outweighs the possible risk to the baby.

Side effects

Candida, in addition to the desired antifungal effect, can cause side effects.

Some of the side effects of clotrimazole do not require seeking medical attention. As the body gets used to the drug, they may disappear. Doctors can also tell you ways to reduce or prevent these side effects.

Most often, when applying a Candida solution, the following develop:

    Pain and other unpleasant sensations in the oral cavity.

    Abdominal cramps or pain.

  1. Nausea or vomiting.

If these symptoms do not go away or get worse, you should consult a doctor.

Very rarely, when using Candida solution, serious allergic reactions occur that require immediate medical attention. Their symptoms include:

  • Skin rash.
  • Swelling, especially in the face, tongue and neck.
  • Dizziness.
  • Difficulty breathing.

Storage

The Candide solution should be stored at room temperature not exceeding 25 °C, away from sunlight, heat sources and moisture. Do not keep the drug in the freezer or bathroom. Remember that all medications, including Candida, should be stored out of the reach of children and pets.

The shelf life of the solution is 3 years. After its expiration, the use of the drug is prohibited.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacokinetics

Clotrimazole, when applied topically, practically does not enter the bloodstream and does not have a systemic effect.

Pharmacodynamics

Clotrimazole, an imidazole derivative, has an antifungal effect, which is associated with disruption of the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, which leads to damage to the cell wall. Ergosterol is the main component of the cytoplasmic membrane of fungi. Clotrimazole acts as an inhibitor of the enzymatic conversion of 2,4 methylenedihydrolanosterol into dimethylsterol, provitamin D2, which is the main blocker of the cytoplasmic membrane of the fungus. Minimum fungicidal concentrations of clotrimazole promote the leakage of intracellular phosphorus mixtures into the environment with the concomitant breakdown of cellular nucleic acids and potassium leakage. Other mechanisms of the antifungal action of clotrimazole include the restructuring of plasma membrane ATPase and other membrane enzymes, changes in membrane transport and fatty acid metabolism.

Clotrimazole has a wide spectrum of action, is effective against dermatophytes, yeast fungi, has an antimicrobial effect against the causative agent of erythrasma, streptococci and staphylococci, and is effective against Trichomonas.

Indications for use

Candidal stomatitis, glossitis, cheilitis, angular stomatitis, periodontitis.

Directions for use and doses

10-20 drops (1/2 of 1 ml) of the Candida preparation are applied to the affected areas of the oral cavity 3-4 times a day using a cotton swab. When applying, make sure that all damaged oral mucosa is treated with the solution. Despite the fact that improvement occurs only on days 3-5, treatment should be continued until the clinical manifestations of the disease completely disappear.

Drug interactions

Concomitant use of amphotericin B or nystatin reduces the activity of clotrimazole.

special instructions

For topical use in the oral cavity only. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. If there is worsening or no improvement after regular use, consult a doctor.

Use during pregnancy and lactation.

The question of the advisability of prescribing the drug during pregnancy should be decided individually after consulting a doctor.

In clinical and experimental studies, no negative effect on the health of the woman or fetus has been established.

It is not known whether clotrimazole is excreted in breast milk, but it should be used with caution in nursing mothers.

The mucous membranes of the oral cavity are constantly susceptible to attacks by various pathogenic microorganisms. In most cases, the immune system can cope with this problem on its own. But if the body’s protective function does not fully do its job, the infection can cause many complex diseases. And if this happens, the drug “Candide” - a solution for rinsing the mouth - will stop the development of the disease.

Dosage form of the drug and composition

Today, this antifungal medicine, which belongs to the group of imidazole derivatives, is available in the form of a gel, vaginal tablets and solutions. The latter can be found in pharmacies in polyethylene dropper bottles of 15 ml. The consistency of “Candide” is a viscous and homogeneous solution, and the color is transparent. 1 ml of the drug contains 10 mg of the active substance - clotrimazole. Glycerol and propylene glycol are used as auxiliary components in the medicine.

Pharmacological action and pharmacokinetics of the drug

This antifungal drug has a wide spectrum of action. An excellent therapeutic effect is achieved due to the effect of the main substance on the synthesis of ergosterol, which is one of the constituent parts of fungal cell membranes.

"Candide", a solution for the oral cavity, is effective against diseases of the mucous membranes caused by the fungi Malassezia furfur and Candida, as well as dermatophytes and molds. Clotrimazole is active against Trichomonas vaginalis, Corynebacterium minutissimum, Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp.

When applied topically, the drug penetrates deeply into tissues, reaching maximum therapeutic concentrations. In this case, only a small part of the active substance is absorbed into the blood.

Indications for use of the drug

The drug is prescribed to patients with lesions of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity, which are caused by yeast-like and mold fungi, dermatophytes. The medicine “Candide” can also be used for thrush, complicated secondary pyoderma and trichomoniasis. Instructions for use recommend using the solution for such diseases not for treating the oral cavity, but intravaginally.

Despite the wide spectrum of action, this remedy is most often prescribed for candidal stomatitis. It allows you to quickly cope with the uncontrollably developing fungus of the genus Candida, even if the immune system is severely impaired. Therefore, the drug is prescribed even to patients with diabetes, severe forms of cancer and HIV-infected people.

Contraindications

Due to the fact that only a small part of the active substance is absorbed into the blood, the Candide solution is safe for children, as well as for adults. The instructions for use do not contain information about age restrictions for taking the drug.

It is not recommended to use the medicine only for people with individual intolerance to the components of the solution. The drug should be used with caution for the treatment of thrush in newborns; in no case should the permissible dose of clotrimazole be exceeded.

Dosage regimen

Before considering questions about how and how much of the drug should be used, it is worth noting that self-medication most often leads to the most negative consequences. Therefore, before using Candide (solution), you should consult a doctor. Only a specialist after examination will be able to correctly calculate the dosage of the medicine in accordance with the individual characteristics of the patient.

But if you can’t see a doctor, don’t despair. You should study in detail the information about the chosen form of the drug “Candide”.

Instructions for use recommend using the solution 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks. Adults should use 10-20 drops of the drug for one treatment; for children, the dose should be reduced by 2-3 times, depending on age. Visible improvements are usually observed on days 3-5, but the course of treatment is recommended to be continued for up to 10-14 days.

Mode of application

To achieve a good therapeutic effect, before treatment with the drug, it is necessary to remove plaque from the mucous membranes. For this purpose in 100 gr. Dilute a teaspoon of soda with water, then moisten a cotton swab or a piece of bandage in the solution, which is used to treat the oral cavity. Only after such an unpleasant procedure, a Candide solution is applied to all affected areas of the mucous membrane with a cotton swab.

If we are talking about the treatment of candidal stomatitis in children, then parents should treat the baby’s oral cavity with a soda solution 4-5 times a day. And only use the medicine in the morning and evening after the procedure.

Pregnancy and lactation period

According to the results of experimental studies, it has been established that high doses of clotrimazole have an embryotoxic effect. Therefore, in the 1st trimester of pregnancy, “Candide” - a solution for the mouth - is not recommended. In cases where it is impossible to do without the use of this medicine, therapy should be carried out only under the supervision of a doctor.

As for the lactation period, it is currently unknown whether clotrimazole is excreted in breast milk. And although the drug "Candide" is not contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women, the potential risk should be taken into account when choosing antifungal therapy.

Side effects

Despite the fact that when using the Candide solution, only a small amount of clotrimazole enters the blood, there are a number of adverse reactions. Thus, some patients experience irritation of the mucous membranes within a few minutes after applying the medicine. Others complain of severe burning and redness of the mucous membranes. If the medicine gets into your throat, you may experience nausea or an unpleasant taste.

If any of the above reactions occur, the use of the medicine should be stopped.

Overdose

When the solution is applied topically, an acute overdose is unlikely. Pharmacists think so, although there are different situations in life. The medicine can be taken by a child or grandmother who knows little about modern medicines. Therefore, when purchasing the drug "Candide", you need to know that in case of an overdose you should immediately call an ambulance. And although there is no specific antidote, doctors will be able to provide timely symptomatic therapy in a hospital setting. In the meantime, the medical team is on the way, the patient needs to be given activated charcoal.

Interaction with other medications

As a rule, for severe fungal infections, complex therapy is prescribed, which includes “Candide” (solution). The use of these medications gives a good therapeutic effect, but only if there is adequate interaction. For example, the drug “Candide” is not recommended to be combined with the drug “Nystatin”, because the latter significantly reduces the activity of clotrimazole.

It is also undesirable to use a solution or any other form of this medicine with polyene antibacterial and antifungal drugs, for example, with the drug Amphotericin B. This is explained by the fact that clotrimazole reduces the effect of the above medications. Consequently, such therapy will not only fail to produce results, but may also have a detrimental effect on other body systems.
